Tubo ótico refrator Skywatcher Esprit 100mm F/5 — tubo ótico, abertura 100 mm, f/5

The Skywatcher Esprit 100mm F/5 OTA refractor is an optical tube assembly designed for wide-field visual observation and astrophotography. With a 100 mm aperture and a fast f/5 focal ratio, the optical design provides a wide, well-corrected field delivering sharp stars across the image circle. The compact and lightweight construction makes the OTA suitable for transport to dark-sky sites and for use on a variety of mounts. The instrument is intended as an imaging-capable refractor that balances light-gathering, field flatness and portability.

Advantages

The Esprit 100mm F/5 OTA features corrected optics that reduce field curvature and common aberrations, producing consistent star shapes from centre to edge. Its 100 mm aperture offers increased light throughput compared with smaller refractors while maintaining a compact footprint. The f/5 focal ratio enables shorter exposure times for wide-field deep-sky imaging and easier framing of extended objects. The optical tube assembly format allows users to pair the OTA with a preferred focuser, finder and mount according to specific observing or imaging needs.

Suitable for

• Wide-field astrophotography of nebulae, star clusters and the Milky Way
• Visual observation of deep-sky objects and planetary detail with appropriate eyepieces
• Use on portable equatorial or alt-azimuth mounts for field sessions
• As a dedicated imaging OTA in a compact observatory or transportable rig

Key specifications

• Aperture: 100 mm clear aperture for increased light-gathering
• Focal ratio: f/5 for a short focal length and wide field of view
• Optical configuration: apochromatic/corrected refractor optics for reduced chromatic aberration and improved field flatness
• Field performance: well-corrected star images across a wide image circle suitable for large sensors
• Mechanical: compact optical tube assembly suitable for attachment of aftermarket focusers and accessories
• Portability: lightweight design for transport to observing sites

How to use

Mount the OTA on a stable equatorial or alt-azimuth mount rated for the combined weight of the tube and imaging accessories. Attach an appropriate focuser, diagonal or camera adapter as required for visual use or imaging. Perform collimation or alignment procedures as specified by the mount manufacturer, then use a finder or electronic guide to centre targets. For astrophotography, balance the mount, polar-align if applicable, and use guiding or short exposures consistent with the focal length and focal ratio to achieve sharp, round stars. Cool-down the OTA to ambient temperature before critical imaging sessions to reduce thermal currents.

Recommendations

For best imaging results pair the Esprit 100mm F/5 OTA with a flat-field reducer or field flattener designed for fast refractors and select cameras with appropriate sensor size to match the corrected image circle. Use a stable mount with autoguiding for longer exposures and allow sufficient thermal equilibration before starting precision photometric or high-resolution sessions.
