Disco SSD OWC 480 GB M.2 PCI Express 3.1 NVMe Aura Pro X2

The OWC Aura Pro X2 480 GB M.2 PCIe 3.1 NVMe SSD provides a high-capacity, high-performance storage upgrade for PCIe-equipped Macs and compatible PCs. With significant increases in storage space and sustained transfer rates, this SSD lets you extend the useful life of your system without replacing the entire machine. The drive uses 3D TLC NAND and is engineered for energy efficiency and lower operating temperatures, delivering stable performance for media, games, and everyday workloads.

Advantages

Aura Pro X2 delivers read speeds up to 1549 MB/s and write speeds up to 1351 MB/s on the 480 GB model, offering performance comparable to newer systems while consuming less power and running cooler than previous-generation SSDs. It includes advanced SLC caching for sustained write acceleration and reserves 7% over-provisioning to optimize background maintenance tasks, improving drive stability, endurance, and data reliability.

Suitable for

• Photo and video editing projects that require fast reads/writes and large capacity
• Expanding storage for older Mac laptops and PCIe-equipped desktop systems
• Gaming and media playback with reduced load times and smoother streaming
• General productivity tasks where faster application launches and file transfers are needed

How to use

Power down your Mac or compatible PC and follow the manufacturer guidelines for M.2 PCIe SSD replacement. Remove the existing drive (if applicable), install the Aura Pro X2 into the M.2 slot, secure it with the mounting screw, then power on and initialize the drive in macOS Disk Utility or your operating system’s disk management tool. Migrate your data from the original drive using your preferred cloning or backup method, then verify that the system recognizes the new SSD and that performance and available capacity meet expectations.

Recommendations

For macOS systems, use macOS High Sierra (10.13) or later to ensure full compatibility with APFS features such as encryption, snapshots, cloning, and space sharing. Regularly maintain backups and allow the SSD’s reserved over-provisioning to remain available for background maintenance to maximize drive longevity and reliability.
