Leitor de cartões magnéticos MagTek Mini Swipe Reader RS-232 5-15 VDC

The MagTek Mini Swipe Reader RS-232 is a compact, port-powered magnetic card reader that captures data from up to three tracks. It supports ISO and AAMVA formats and operates with default RS-232 settings of 9600 bps, 8N1. The reader includes a dual-color LED that provides continuous status feedback and ships with a 6 ft 9-pin D female cable for connection to an RS-232 port. The device measures approximately 32.5 x 100 x 31.3 mm and weighs 165 g; it accepts an input voltage range typically used for similar models.

Advantages

The Mini Swipe Reader is small, low-cost, and does not require an external power supply because it is powered through the serial port. It offers three-track, bi-directional reading and is compatible with common card formats (ISO, AAMVA). Field-configurable communication and track-format options allow adaptation to different systems, while the dual-color LED helps operators monitor device status.

Suitable for

• Point-of-sale terminals and transaction logging where compact readers are needed
• Access control systems that require ISO or AAMVA card reading
• Data-capture setups in kiosks, reception desks, or mobile stations with RS-232 interfaces

How to use

Connect the included 9-pin D female cable to the host RS-232 port and ensure the host supports port-powered peripherals or supplies the required voltage. Swipe the magnetic card through the reader head in either direction to capture track data; the dual-color LED indicates read status. If necessary, configure communication parameters and track formats in the field to match the host system. Use the default 9600 bps, 8N1 settings unless your system requires different serial parameters.

Recommendations

Install the reader in a protected location to avoid exposure to moisture and extreme temperatures. Verify RS-232 pinout compatibility with the host device before use, and test communication settings after installation. For reliable operation, use cards in good condition and follow the host system’s instructions for serial device configuration.
