The 3M Cubitron II Backing Pad M14 125mm (model 64861) is a replacement backing pad for M14-thread angle grinders designed to hold 125 mm abrasive discs securely during sanding and grinding operations. It provides a stable mounting surface for discs used on metal, composite and painted surfaces, helping maintain consistent contact and control when performing surface preparation, deburring and finishing tasks.

Advantages

The backing pad offers secure disc retention with a threaded M14 attachment for fast and reliable mounting on compatible angle grinders. Its construction balances flexibility and firmness to support abrasive discs while allowing effective contouring over uneven surfaces. How to use

Ensure the angle grinder spindle is clean and the machine is unplugged or the battery removed before fitting the backing pad. Screw the pad onto the M14 spindle by hand until snug, then secure according to the grinder manufacturer's instructions using the tool or flange as required. Attach the appropriate 125 mm abrasive disc to the pad, aligning and pressing firmly if using hook-and-loop or adhesive-backed discs. Check that the disc is centered and rotates freely without wobble before powering the tool. Use steady pressure and controlled passes during sanding or grinding to preserve disc life and avoid excessive heat buildup.

Recommendations

Select abrasive discs rated for the material and task at hand and follow the disc manufacturer's speed and safety guidelines. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment including eye, ear and respiratory protection. Periodically inspect the backing pad for wear, cracking or loss of flatness and replace it if any damage is detected to maintain safe operation and consistent results.
