Sangean MMR-88 is a compact, portable emergency radio in yellow with USB-C charging, designed to provide reliable access to broadcast information and basic device power during crises and outdoor activities. The unit supports multiple power sources—hand crank (dynamo), integrated solar panel and replaceable batteries—so it remains operational when one source is unavailable. It receives AM and FM bands and includes a weather-alert function to notify users of official emergency broadcasts. The rugged construction and simple controls make the radio suitable for field use, evacuation kits and everyday preparedness.

Advantages

The Sangean MMR-88 combines several charging options in a single compact device, offering hand-crank and solar recharging alongside conventional battery operation and USB-C input for external power. Its weather-alert capability provides automated notification of relevant public-safety broadcasts. The straightforward tuner and controls enable quick access to AM and FM stations, while the visible yellow housing improves device visibility in low-light or crowded situations. Its small footprint and durable design support portability and storage in emergency kits.

How to use

To operate the Sangean MMR-88, power the unit using the most convenient source: insert fresh batteries, connect a USB-C power source, expose the solar panel to daylight or rotate the hand crank to generate charge. Tune the AM or FM bands using the front-panel controls to locate local stations. Enable the weather-alert function following the manual’s instructions so the radio will monitor and notify you of emergency broadcasts. Use the USB-C output to provide limited charging to compatible small devices when available charge remains.

Recommendations

Store the radio in an accessible location within emergency kits and periodically check batteries and charge level of internal storage. Keep the solar panel clean and expose it to direct light for best solar charging performance. Use the hand crank to top up power reserves when no external source is available, and avoid fully depleting batteries to preserve long-term readiness.
