Sapphire is one of the most durable minerals found in nature - on the 10-point Mohs scale it is just behind the diamond.

In glasses there is its synthetic version, which is a combination of corundum with aluminum oxide.

In practice, such high hardness makes the sapphire glass much more resistant to mechanical damage - for example scratching with everyday objects such as a knife or keys.
